WebI'm trying automatic feature recognition, but no matter the settings, i can not get SolidWorks to fully recognize it, there always stays a main part that is "imported". You can also select an imported body in the graphics area or in the SOLIDWORKS FeatureManager design tree, right-click, and select FeatureWorks > Recognize Features. This works for automatic and interactive recognition.

If you build a model on top of the STL file, that's fine. BUT, be very careful to NOT make any relationships to the imported model. Otherwise you won't be able to delete the mesh later, and the file will always be terrible to work on.
